For example, companies of any size can now compete on a level playing field, but older people struggle to adapt to constant change; vaccination rates are in decline because activists are better at using Google than the establishment... In this brave new world, how do we keep our humanity? How do we use our natural gifts and talents to prosper, regardless of age or status? How do we live in the age of the iBrain? These are questions I like to explore.

After 25+ years of corporate & tech start-ups, I ended up plugged into machines in the hospital’s emergency department. Knowing that “avoiding” stress in our 24/7 world wasn’t possible, and (and as my life literally depended on it) I needed a solution. I needed to live happy and healthy in a high-stress world (without drugs, medication or running away). So as an engineer with an MBA, I embarked on a 4 year R&D odyssey, to research and then develop a solution that would “fix” me – a solution that became OnCalm. So now, as a Stress Coach, I work with people and companies to help them to switch-off stress anytime & live happy & healthy, in our high-stress world and as a public speaker, I help to “spread the word” and talk about stress and its dangers to anyone who’ll listen!

1 PostFrances Short
If you had told me that I would end up founding a company that helped other businesses get paid I would not have believed you. Love and a sense of adventure brought me to the other side of the world where I ended up working for Air New Zealand which I loved. The company had a great supportive culture and I found that I really enjoyed helping people, especially those experiencing the stress of possibly missing a connecting flight. 14 years later I followed my heart and found myself in Australia to be with my partner. My partner is involved in an industry notorious for not getting paid on time and it was experiencing the stress of not getting paid vicariously through him and his co-workers that the idea of Late Payer List was born. I once again found myself helping people, this time for other reasons.

From her first client she saw results and was driven by her own initial success as well as the magnificent changes she saw in her clients. An added side effect Jenny’s clients have seen is an improvement in their relationships, life and their career. Jenny does not apologise for this. "I provide busy people with the strategy, and just as importantly, the education, the understanding and the support to fulfill their financial goals. What differentiates me is that I know that busy people need support to follow through on achieving their financial goals. The best strategy is meaningless without action, implementation and review. I want my clients to enjoy their financial journey and not just be worried about the destination (or the paperwork!). Planning your finances should not feel like another obligation or burden in an already busy schedule. I have been in the finance profession for 17 years working initially as a financial adviser and stockbroker before being employed by some of the country's premiere institutions including Westpac, Macquarie and BT Financial Group. With a love for the industry I have continued my education throughout my career culminating with obtaining my Masters in Applied Finance in 2013."

Co founded [mto] to provide companies with the expertise they need to stay on the cutting edge with social media. I’ve been on the front lines of the industry since the beginning and have had the incredible freedom to experiment with the emerging technology and use it to create huge impacts for businesses. One of my favorite examples of my work was with the iconic Roxy Theater and Sunset Strip in Los Angeles entertainment district, where I was able to create one of the most prominent social media case studies to date. That work was featured in TechCrunch, The New York Times and NPR and I was named a ‘Social Media Pioneer,’ by Entrepreneur Magazine. Back in the very beginning of social media, I authored Blog 101, a beginner’s guide to blogging and since then, I’ve guest-lectured at UCLA and USC and have spoken at a number of conferences, including Digital Music Forum West, Blog World, ASCAP Expos and SXSW, and Women In Tech International. My work has been featured in top tier media outlets including TechCrunch, The New York Times and NPR.

Why is applying for Paid Parental Leave so complicated? I’m Lisa - an accountant and a mum of two. When my son was born I remember staying up late trying to submit my application for Paid Parental Leave and I couldn’t understand why it was so damn difficult. I’m an Accountant, I should walk all over this! Turns out I’m not the only one who has been driven bloody mad trying to work it all out. Second time around was much easier. I understood what I was doing and what I could do to get the best results for my situation. As time went on, I noticed that every time a friend was sharing their frustration with me about the Paid Parental Leave process, I realised that I was helping them with every step along the way. Sometimes it even saved them a trip into Centrelink. With the feedback rolling in from my friends, and even my own husband, I began to see that I had a lot of knowledge on the subject but, more than that, I had a knack for making it...... simple. I've gone through the websites, expended hours researching it all and I have read the legislation. I now have the solution to avoid all the stress and drama with getting your application completed and get you the money that you are entitled to. Through my blog and detailed eBook 'Making Sense of Paid Parental Leave' I now have all of the information about what you should know and especially the things that no one tells you about.

Are you a small business owner and looking to reduce staff turnover and increase profits? Over the last 18 years I’ve become totally obsessed with leadership and the impact it has on business results, and perhaps more importantly, the happiness of its people at work and in life. The obsession began when I started my career as a 20 year old in a negative, unwelcoming and unsupportive environment. It was so awful, I’d go home and cry nearly every night. As I shared my story with friends and family I found, I wasn’t the only one who was unhappy in a working environment. After my manager left, and the whole team had resigned, I was given the opportunity to step up as the leader. As a 22 year old, I had very little experience in the business and no leadership skill. All I knew, was how not to do it, so I did the opposite of what my manager had done. With that and a brand new team, we got to work. In the following financial year we turned the business almost $150,000. That was over 18 years ago and as a result, have devoted my career to discovering what it takes to run a sustainable and profitable business with happy and empowered employees. I am now an author, coach and trainer on how to be an effective leader in small business, to reduce staff turnover and increase productivity and profit in small business! Now more than ever we need small business owners to step up and run successful and profitable businesses. Small business employs over 44% of the employed population in Australia, it is the heart beat of our economy. Your commitment to success will determine the future of Australia and our happiness depends on it. *Statistics from the Parliament of Australia

MEDIA RELEASE JANUARY 2019 EMPLOYMENT EXPERT WARNS HIRING WELL IN 2019 WILL BE FUNDAMENTAL TO BUSINESS SUCCESS Employee expert and author Natasha Hawker says hiring well is more important than ever, as a “tight applicant market” continues into 2019. Despite an expected slowdown in jobs growth early next year, the author of a new book - From Hire to Fire & Everything in Between - says “a tight applicant market means there is a reduction in the number of quality candidates to consider, making hiring increasingly difficult for employers.” The unemployment rate is currently sitting at 5.1 per cent and in December, NAB said it expected the rate to decline further over the next 6 months, albeit at a slower rate than in previous months. “Unemployment is low and continuing a downward trend which will continue to tighten the candidate short market and increase wage pressure,” says Natasha, the founder and director of Employee Matters, which provides employee support to businesses around Australia. “In a tight applicant market, you have a reduction in the number of quality candidates which makes the recruitment process even more challenging.” Natasha says there are some key tips to ensure employers avoid making costly recruitment mistakes. “Use multiple sourcing channels to increase your chances to hire,” she says. “Good people know good people – use your network and that of your team to find your next employee.” “Develop a best practice recruitment process and get back to candidates quickly so they feel loved, impressed and wanted,” she adds. First released in 2015, From Hire to Fire & Everything in Between, is the only book of its kind in Australia to help small to medium business owners navigate hiring, managing and exiting employees. Entertaining and easy-to-read, the book reveals the secrets to finding, building and maintaining engaged, high performance teams - increasing productivity and profitability by up to 20 per cent. Equally, it teaches business owners how to have those difficult conversations and exit employees easily, fairly and legally, avoiding company fines of up to $63,000 and personal fines of up to $12,600. Natasha Hawker is available for interview and can discuss a broad range of topics, relating to employment trends in 2019, including: 1. Tips for employing recent graduates; 2. How Australia's declining housing prices are reducing employment opportunities in the real estate and property sector; 3. The ongoing shortage of quality candidates and what this means for employers and the need to "hire well"; 4. And the ramifications of the #WalkOutOZ movement, which will continue to build momentum as businesses come under increasing pressure for men and women to be paid the same salary for the same roles. Natasha has held numerous human resources and recruitment roles over the past two decades, including for global consulting firm Accenture, in London, India and Australia, before launching Employee Matters in December 2011. She has presented at conferences and for organisations across the globe, on all aspects of HR, people management and employment relations and has facilitated Appropriate Workplace Behaviour courses as a qualified Train the Trainer. She is also regularly quoted as an expert on employee matters in the national media, including for the ABC and in the Sydney Morning Herald. From Hire to Fire & Everything in Between, $24.95, is available now from all good book stores, including Dymocks, Amazon, Kindle, and the Employee Matters website, www.employeematters.com.au -ends- For further information contact: Greta Donaldson at Greta Donaldson Publicity 0427 658 638 or greta@gdpublicity.com.au

2 PostsSteuart Snooks
I am an E-mail & Workplace Productivity Expert who works with busy professionals and their teams to help them get control of all their e-mail. I show Business owners, CEOs and senior executives a range of best practices to help them restore e-mail to its rightful place as a tool to facilitate improved workplace and personal productivity. My first career was in the wine industry (working in restaurants, retail and wholesale) before travelling to France to visit and work in vineyards and wineries in Champagne, Burgundy, Beaujolais, the Loire, Cognac and Bordeaux. After a period of seeking to combine wine education and travel, I joined a time management company with a view to perhaps becoming a time management expert to the wine trade. Since then my career has evolved from a position as a time management consultant to dealing more and more specifically with the e-mail-related issues of time management and workplace productivity. I've spent much of the last decade researching and teaching what is best practice in managing e-mail overload and communicating effectively via e-mail. People tell me I deliver insightful, entertaining and highly practical solutions that make a real difference to personal and organisational productivity. I also help clients to make the paradigm shift in their thinking and behaviour to be more effective in managing e-mail, integrating it as part of their overall workload. I am keenly aware that most people are ‘time poor’ and learn best from well-paced, humourous and highly practical presentations where they are fully involved, engaged and enjoying the process. So, as a result of many years of ‘hands on experience’ since 1997, working with those who are overloaded and crying out for practical, affordable solutions to the various challenges of e-mail productivity, I have developed a series of workshops, presentations, webinars, coaching and associated resources that will show you and your team the highly practical and easily implemented Best Practice skills, techniques and strategies for mastering your e-mail.

1 PostThe Business Experiment Shevonne and Jemimah
Once upon a time, Jemimah Ashleigh and Shevonne Joyce each started a business and talked almost every day about the REAL of doing so... They laughed, cried, had a few WHAT THE BLEEP moments, Liam Hemsworth got a mention somewhere and then it dawned on them: this is a thing! And so the Business Experiment Podcast was born. As the name suggests, it's an experiment involving two entrepreneurs and a cat who decided it was time someone got real about what it's like to run a business for the first time; the good, the bad, the ugly. This is designed to document their personal experiences to inspire you, motivate you and entertain you. The best part is, they have no idea how this will turn out: they have never recorded a podcast before... And thought what better time to start than now?! In 11 weeks they have hundreds of listeners spanning 10 countries.
